Our Teaching Team

All teachers are fully qualified and have extensive experience. The difference at the Inner West Music College is that all staff teach because they love it! Whether it's for pleasure or exams each teacher will design their lessons to suit each individual learner and what they want to achieve.  

  

  

Guitar

Mathew Kurukchi BMus Hon, GradDipEd(Current)

Mathew (or Mat as he is well known to students) has being playing guitar since he was 8 years old. He is currently at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying guitar performance techniques and effective pedagogy teaching methods.

Mat has been teaching classical and electric guitar to students from beginner to advanced levels for over 5 years. In addition to employment at the Inner West Music College Mat is also employed by a highly recognised private school in Sydney.

Flute

Meghan FitzGerald BMus, BMus(Hon)

Meghan has taught the flute extensively to students of all ages and from beginners to advanced diploma level for over 16 years.

Meghan gained her Bachelor of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts, in 2000, and in 2010 completed Honours from the University of Newcastle. In addition to teaching Meghan performs with the Marrickville Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra143.

She believes that learning music can be a fun and rewarding experience for all ages and stages.

  

  

  

Piano and Composition

Anthony Moles BMus(Hon), Phd (Music) (Current)

Anthony completed a Bachelor Music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University in 2001 and has previously taught privately at the St. Cecilia School of Music and Newstead College in Tasmania. 

He has been awarded the University of Sydney Postgraduate Award Scholarship for Academic Achievement and is currently completing a Doctor of Philosophy majoring in composition.

His compositions have been performed by many large and small groups including the Ku-Ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Queensland Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Anthony enjoys introducing the piano to beginners’ right through to those who are preparing for AMEB exams and specialises in tutoring students in HSC composition projects.   

  

  

Guitar

Oskar de Mari - Jones BMus, BMus(Hon)(Current)

After completing a Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Oskar was selected to complete a Bachelor of Music (Honours). Oskar has enjoyed ongoing employment as a Guitar Tutor at Rose Bay Secondary College and currently at the Inner West Music College; allowing him to share his expertise in Classical acoustic guitar performance techniques with students of all ages and abilities.

Oskar has been the winner of the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge,  Ensemble Section with the Sydney Guitar Quartet and was a finalist in the Musica Viva Chamber Music Competition with the Sydney Guitar Quartet. In 2005 Oskar was the winner of Sydney Region Music Festival Competition including a solo performance at the Sydney Opera House.

  

The Inner West Music College is registered with the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation and  all teachers have been screened with the NSW government Child Protection Authority.

  

  

Piano and Bass Guitar  

Micaela Cecire BMus, GradDipEd

Micaela has completed a Bachelor of Music at the Australian institute of Music in Sydney with studies in the piano and bass guitar. In addition to private studio teaching she has also undertaken studies in classroom teaching settings.

She has a joy for teaching children and introducing them to concepts of understanding and performing music. She has a natural way with younger students and is loved dearly by all of them. Her patience and easy communication methods always create a positive learning environment.

Micaela balances her piano teaching with performing in local cover bands and a range of improvisation and contemporary composition projects. Creating a vibrant, positive learning environment, Micaela is adored by all students. 

 

  

Clarinet  

Aleisha Kahn BMus (Current)

Aleisha received her musical training in the United States before moving to Sydney to study at the Conservatorium of Music.

While living in San Francisco she was admitted into the selective School of the Arts and studied at the San Francisco Conservatory in their Preparatory Division with Bruce Foster of the Beijing NCPA Orchestra and Luis Baez of the San Francisco Symphony.

She has been a finalist in the Mondavi Young Artists Competition, recipient of several scholarships, a member of Tango Oz, Young Peoples Symphony Orchestra, Sacramento Youth Symphony and Sydney Youth Orchestra.

She can teach various styles from classical to jazz and tango. She loves sharing her passion for music and thoroughly enjoys teaching beginning to intermediate clarinetists of all ages.

  

  

Singing

Prudence Holloway BMus, GradDipMus(Pedagogy)

Prudence has been performing since the age of 12 and trained in the fields of Acting, singing and dancing. 

She graduated in 2004 from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice followed by a Graduate Diploma in Pedagogy at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she studied teaching techniques for students of all ages and stages. She has taken workshops to extend her knowledge of vocal pedagogy, including Estill Voice Training.

Whilst pursuing her studies Prudence has worked professionally in both Melbourne and Sydney with The Production Company in “Bye Bye Birdie”, Lambert House Enterprises “Godspell” and a sell out season at Bar Me of her self directed one woman show "Lady in Waiting”.  Prudence is currently studying the Meisner Technique at the Actors Pulse.

She is experienced in preparing students for entry into Newtown Performing Arts High School and Scholarships at local schools including Macdonald College of Performing Arts.

  

 

Violin

Agnieszka Rypel-Polkas, BMus, MMus, BTeach

Agnes, as she is warmly known to all students, has been teaching the violin for over 20 years. She has prepared students for all levels of exams, auditions and competitions.  

Educated at the High School & High Conservatorium of Music in Poland, Agnes completed her first music degree, followed by a Masters Degree in Music at The Higher Pedagogical School, Poland.  

Agnes has performed with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House and is currently a member of the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra.  

Agnes teaches students from ages 7 years and above in all areas of violin performance studies and incorporates Theory, Musicianship and Aural into lessons.

  

  

Piano

Carolyn Croker JP, BMus, GradCertEd, M.MTA

Carolyn completed a Bachelor of Music in 2001 followed by a Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Newcastle. Her deep interest in music education led to further study, completing specialty training and accreditation in Orff Music Education and AMEB Music Craft and Musicianship/Theory.

Carolyn has performed in the Grand Hall of the Newcastle Conservatorium and the NSW Parliament House. She has also accompanied professional performers in many public concerts and competitions including the Australian Youth Choir in the Western Sydney District.

Carolyn is a reputable member of the Ashfield community who regularly provides services as a Justice of the Peace.

  

    

French Horn and Trumpet  

Abbey Edlin  BMus(Hon)

Abbey has worked as a Brass teacher and tutor for over 10 years with instruments including the Cornet, Trumpet, French Horn, Flugel Horn and Tenor Horn.

She completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington in 2007 and went on to play with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Abbey recently came to Australia after 12 months in London where she was employed as Co-Principal Horn with the Southbank Sinfonia and worked with a variety of others including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

In addition to teaching at a variety of Sydney schools Abbey regularly plays with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Camerata, Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and the NSW Police Band.  

She enjoys teaching beginners to advanced levels and students of  all ages.
